This past summer, a huge block of buildings on North campus was knocked down (Including Foley Theater, Coughlan Field House and Schoenecker Arena) to make room for a brand new $60 million Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex set to open in Fall 2010.

The construction site borders Cretin and Summit Ave. Right in the middle of campus, the site is surrounded by Brady Residence Hall and Murray Herrick Student Center so I see the construction daily. I can’t believe the progress which seems to change each time I pass. The size of the facility amazes me, and I feel miniature as I strain my neck to see all the way up the mammoth shell of what will be the future Field House.

As a senior, it’s sad I won’t personally get to take advantage (Granted I pass all my classes) of the beautiful facility's amenities when it opens next fall. However, I can push my bitterness aside and feel genuine excitement for all the future Tommies who will enjoy it for years to come. It should be a treat to go work out in the Anderson gym!

Look at this cool video showing a 3D model of the what will be completed next fall:
http://www.stthomas.edu/openingdoors/studentCenter/animation.html

Allison's Blog
http://blog.stthomas.edu/allison/2009/11/hard_hat_required.html?WT.mc_id=TBRSS"}]);
